Although these winter days have now decreed
the death of many things that I adore,
a hundred pretty words are all I need
to make a garden for the world, and more.
A mighty brace of nouns will help construe
a scenic river running wild and free.
Then I will build a lovely realm of dew
that sparkles from the mountains to the sea.
When winter wind is howling in despair,
an adjective or two will help it grow
into an April song of balmy air
that melts away the sorrow and the snow.
Then, on a sunny morning I might make
a four-leaf clover for my spirit’s sake.
