ASHES.

By Peace Nkeiruka Maduako

To ashes to ashes

We rise with the morning,

We cover the sun,

Gliding on the wind

Over fields of corn

We have our full.

But when the night comes

And deep shadows wake,

We die and return

To ashes to ashes.

Our moment of call

From the faraway haven

Resounds like none.

We leave behind

A reminiscence of existence

Soon obscured in time

While we lay in silence

In the ashes someplace.
